Offensive Waste, EWC 18-01-04

Offensive waste is soft waste that is not ‘clinical waste' (as defined in The Controlled Waste Regulations 1992) but which is unpleasant and may cause offence to the senses. Only certain waste types are suitable for placement in this waste stream without stringent and documented assessment procedures.

What can be placed in these containers?

  • Incontinence pads and nappy waste
  • Sanitary hygiene waste
  • Outer dressings and protective clothing, eg masks, gowns and gloves that are not contaminated with body fluids

How do you dispose of offensive waste?

This waste can be disposed of by incineration or non-hazardous landfill by a registered waste carrier.

Bins, bags, and wheelie bins

A typical use of offensive waste services provides typically 50 litre indoor bins and / or yellow tiger stripe bags and these can be transferred to an outside wheelie bin. You can then pay just for the wheelie bin to be emptied no matter how many bags there are. We find this is more cost effective to you rather than a bag rate.
